Substitute Herman Haugen headed a 90th-minute equaliser in Stavanger after Michael Olise was sent off for two bookings within seconds, with Bayern leading 3-2.

Norwegian champions Viking held Bayern Munich to a 3-3 draw in Stavanger on Tuesday, with substitute Herman Haugen heading in a 90th-minute equaliser after Bayern forward Michael Olise had been sent off with his side 3-2 up.

Harry Kane scored twice to drag Bayern back from 2-0 down, which means the England captain has now scored in nine Champions League games in a row. Only Ruud van Nistelrooy, Robert Lewandowski and Cristiano Ronaldo have managed that, and Ronaldo holds the record with 11.

A two-goal lead for the Norwegian champions

Viking scored after 71 seconds. Gianni Stensness met an inswinging corner from captain Zlatko Tripic and headed it down past Bayern goalkeeper Jonas Urbig. Bayern had also conceded inside eight seconds of Saturday's draw with Augsburg.

Viking goalkeeper Arild Ostbo then stopped Olise and Luis Diaz in quick succession. In the 38th minute Viking broke at pace and Peter Christiansen ran in behind to slot past Urbig for 2-0 at half-time.

Kane turns it around

Bayern needed nine minutes after the restart. Viking's Kristoffer Haugen was penalised for a challenge on Konrad Laimer, and Kane drilled the penalty low in the 54th minute. Six minutes later he levelled with a header at the far post from a Joshua Kimmich delivery.

Kane then set up the third goal. He clipped a ball into the box for Laimer, who squared it for Diaz to finish from close range in the 71st minute.

Two yellows in seconds

Two minutes later Bayern were down to ten. Referee Georgi Kabakov booked Olise for a tactical foul that stopped a Viking counter-attack. While the card was still being shown, the France international threw the ball he was holding at Tripic's head and received a second yellow. According to ESPN, it was the first sending-off of Olise's senior career.

Viking were the better side after that. In the 90th minute Tripic sent over a deep cross and Herman Haugen headed in at the back post.

What they said

Bayern coach Vincent Kompany did not defend his player. "We were dominant, but at the moment it feels like every chance for the opposition leads to a goal," he said. "It was our own fault. This red card was super dumb."

Kane said of Olise: "He'll have to take responsibility obviously, he'll have to learn from it." He added: "We should have won the game with the second-half performance. You take the point and you move on."

Tripic told Norwegian broadcaster TV2: "I could have played another 90 minutes. I'm so incredibly proud. I've waited 34 years for this."

What it means

Bayern, who beat Bodo/Glimt 5-0 in their opener, have four points from two games. Viking lost their first match 3-1, so this is their first point of the league phase. They are back in Europe's top competition for the first time since 1992-93 and were in Norway's second tier as recently as 2018.

Kane's double also gives him 36 Champions League goals in 40 games since turning 30, one more than Lionel Messi's 35 in his thirties. Bayern host Arsenal on 21 October without the suspended Olise. The same night, Viking visit Aston Villa.
