The Georgian winger needs knee surgery after Tuesday's 4-2 win over Barcelona, a heavy blow for the holders, who top the league phase with three wins from three.

Paris Saint-Germain winger Khvicha Kvaratskhelia will undergo surgery on a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee, the club announced on Wednesday, the day after their 4-2 Champions League win over Barcelona. Forward Ousmane Dembélé (left thigh) and captain Marquinhos (right thigh) will also miss the coming weeks.

Kvaratskhelia went down after a challenge from Barcelona's Xavi Espart in the 59th minute at the Parc des Princes and was carried off. PSG set no date for his return, saying only that the operation would take place "in the coming days", according to CBS Sports. An ACL rupture usually means at least nine months out. The Georgian was named player of the tournament when PSG won the second of their two straight Champions League titles.

Dembélé had already gone off in the 19th minute, and Marquinhos felt his thigh around the hour mark.

The holders still lead the 36-team table on nine points from three games, with 14 goals scored, level on points with Aston Villa, Liverpool, Real Madrid and Betis. CBS Sports names Maghnes Akliouche, who started ahead of Kvaratskhelia against Manchester City, and Ferran Torres, scorer of seven goals for PSG this season, as the obvious options to fill the gap in attack.
