March Premier League Awards Shine Spotlight on Fernandes, Arteta, Osula and Ramsdale

2026-04-05 · Premier League

Bruno Fernandes matches Cristiano Ronaldo’s record with his sixth EA SPORTS Player of the Month award for March, while Mikel Arteta clinches his eighth Barclays Manager of the Month. Newcastle’s William Osula and Aaron Ramsdale also claim top monthly honors for their match-winning goal and pivotal save respectively.

The March Premier League monthly awards have cast a spotlight on some of the season’s standout performers, with Bruno Fernandes, Mikel Arteta, William Osula, and Aaron Ramsdale taking home prestigious honors reflecting their impact on the campaign so far.

Bruno Fernandes Equals Ronaldo’s Player of the Month Record

Bruno Fernandes has triumphed to secure the EA SPORTS Player of the Month for March, matching former Manchester United teammate Cristiano Ronaldo’s tally of six.

Fernandes’ outstanding contributions included two goals and four assists across four matches, lifting Manchester United with key moments such as scoring and assisting in the 2-1 win over Crystal Palace, setting up chances against Newcastle and Aston Villa, and converting a penalty in a 2-2 draw at Bournemouth.

His 16 assists this season break Manchester United’s club record previously held by David Beckham, while placing him just four shy of the Premier League’s all-time single-season record of 20 assists shared by Thierry Henry and Kevin De Bruyne.

“This is a special moment for me and the team,” Fernandes remarked after claiming the award a year to the day since his last win in March 2025. He now trails only Harry Kane, Sergio Aguero, and Mohamed Salah by one Player of the Month award each.

Mikel Arteta Secures Eighth Barclays Manager of the Month Award

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta continues to cement his status as one of the Premier League’s top tacticians by capturing his eighth Manager of the Month accolade after a flawless March.

Under Arteta’s guidance, Arsenal achieved victories over Chelsea, Brighton, and Everton, opening up a commanding nine-point lead atop the league.

Reflecting on the dramatic Everton win, Arteta highlighted the emergence of youthful talent Max Dowman: “I had a gut feeling it was a moment for him.” The 16-year-old scored twice late on, becoming the Premier League’s youngest ever goalscorer.

Arteta’s eight monthly awards place him joint sixth all-time, level with Martin O’Neill and Harry Redknapp, and just two behind Liverpool legend Jürgen Klopp.

William Osula’s Sensational Goal Wins Guinness Goal of the Month

Newcastle United forward William Osula scooped the Guinness Goal of the Month for March with a breathtaking 90th-minute winner against Manchester United.

With Newcastle reduced to 10 men, Osula seized a pass from Kieran Trippier, cut inside from the right, and curled a sublime finish beyond goalkeeper Senne Lammens to seal victory.

The 22-year-old Dane becomes the first Newcastle player to win the award this season and just the sixth player from the club to receive the honor since 2016/17, following the likes of Alexander Isak and Miguel Almiron.

“Osula's goal electrified the Magpies and was widely praised by fans and experts alike for its quality and timing,” a Premier League panel noted.

Aaron Ramsdale Clinches Coca-Cola Save of the Month

Newcastle’s goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale has earned the Coca-Cola Save of the Month award for March, recognized for an incredible late stop denying Joshua Zirkzee in the 89th minute against Manchester United.

His heroics preserved Newcastle’s slender lead moments before Osula’s winner and mark Ramsdale’s first Save of the Month in nearly three years.

With three such awards in his career, Ramsdale ranks joint-second in the Premier League’s save accolades, just behind Jordan Pickford.

The Magpies’ double success in the awards underscores their growing threat in the top tier this season.

Everton Under-21s Face Setback in Premier League 2 Campaign

Away from the senior spotlight, Everton’s Under-21s have been eliminated from the Premier League 2 Top 16 playoffs after a season of mixed fortunes.

A draw against Birmingham ensured mathematically that Everton cannot reach the playoff positions, meaning they will enter a secondary playoff series against Professional Development League sides next.

Despite the setback, there were positives such as the return of promising winger Joel Catesby from a severe injury suffered last October. Manager Paul Tait reflected, “Probably the brightest thing about today was seeing Joel back fit, playing 45 minutes.”

Everton have just one remaining fixture against Ipswich Town as they look to finish their campaign on a higher note.

As the Premier League heats up in the run-in, the March awards celebrate individuals who have delivered moments of brilliance and tactical mastery. Fernandes’ playmaking excellence, Arteta’s tactical nous, and Newcastle’s late drama through Osula and Ramsdale embody the thrilling narratives that keep fans engaged week after week.
