Ligue 1+: A New Era for French Football with Record-Breaking Streaming Launch
2025-09-16 · Ligue 1

One month after its launch, Ligue 1+ has surpassed the milestone of one million subscribers, revolutionizing the way fans engage with French football. Alongside this media success, the Ligue 1 season continues with notable updates on clubs, players, and coaching staff.
Since its launch on August 15, 2025, Ligue 1+, the newly created streaming platform by the Ligue de Football Professionnel (LFP), has taken French football broadcasting to new heights by surpassing the remarkable milestone of 1,026,000 subscribers just one month into the Ligue 1 season. This figure was officially revealed by LFP Media, the commercial arm of the LFP responsible for the platform's launch and distribution.
Ligue 1+ offers eight out of nine matches per matchday exclusively, providing fans with immersive coverage and an editorial offering supported strongly by the clubs. The platform's initial strategy included a promotional subscription price of €9.99 for the first three months, later rising to €14.99, making it more accessible than previous broadcasters. "The objective initially set for the entire 2025-2026 season is thus reached in the first month of competition," emphasized LFP Media in its communication.
Nicolas de Tavernost, Director General of LFP Media, celebrated the "exceptional start" of the platform, which counted over 600,000 subscribers immediately after the opening day. He also noted that 72% of subscribers are committed for the full season, reflecting strong long-term engagement. This achievement already exceeds the subscriber total of the prior broadcaster DAZN, which struggled with high pricing and only reached 650,000 subscribers by the end of last season.
Besides the transformative media landscape, Ligue 1 continues to see dynamic developments on and off the pitch. Lille striker Olivier Giroud was recently voted the player of the month by the fans, highlighting his impact and popularity. Meanwhile, Lyon faces challenges as key midfielder Aleksandr Golovine is expected to be sidelined for about a month due to injury.
In other club news, Racing Club de Lens mourns the loss of former player Dejan Milovanovic, who passed away at the age of 41. Various Ligue 1 clubs grapple with controversies and strategic decisions, including a divided fanbase over refereeing decisions and internal calls for governance reform. Nantes president Waldemar Kita publicly criticized the Ligue de Football Professionnel leadership, demanding changes.
On the Tunisian football front, Stade Tunisien achieved a morale-boosting away victory in the Tunisian Ligue 1. Head coach Chokri Khatoui dedicated this win to their supporters and sees it as confirmation of the team's progress following a previous victory over Espérance de Tunis. Conversely, the Béja club, Boujemaa Kmiti, attributed their poor results to physical issues and delayed preseason preparation, with calls for urgent squad reinforcements.
Overall, the 2025-2026 Ligue 1 season is marked by a media revolution with Ligue 1+, thrilling performances on the pitch, and significant club narratives shaping the landscape of French football.
Looking ahead, Ligue 1+ sets a new benchmark for football streaming services, positioning itself as a pivotal platform to expand the league's global footprint. As fans enjoy unmatched access to matches and content, the integration of digital innovation and sporting excellence appears well underway in France's top football tier.
