Michael Carrick's Manchester United arrive without a win in five games, after Lisandro Martinez apologised for his attack on the club's hierarchy.

Leeds United host Manchester United at Elland Road on Sunday (14:00 BST) chasing their first home win over their rivals since September 2002. Michael Carrick's side arrive without a win in five games in all competitions, with the fallout from defender Lisandro Martinez's attack on the club's hierarchy still fresh.

Leeds, coached by Daniel Farke, are seventh with nine points from six games, three ahead of 13th-placed United. Leeds lost for the first time in the league last Saturday, 2-1 at champions Arsenal. United were held 1-1 at home by Tottenham the same day, then lost 2-0 at Atletico Madrid in the Champions League on Tuesday, when United's Leny Yoro was sent off.

Form

Leeds are unbeaten in three league games at Elland Road this season: 1-1 against Brentford, 4-1 against Newcastle and 0-0 against Crystal Palace. United's only league win came on 30 August, 5-2 at home to Ipswich. Since then United have drawn 2-2 at Everton, lost 1-0 at home to Manchester City and drawn 1-1 at Fulham and against Tottenham. They are still without a league win away from home, having lost 2-0 at Hull on the opening weekend.

Farke's edge over Carrick

Farke has won five of his six competitive meetings with Carrick, according to MOT Leeds News, including all four in the Championship when Carrick managed Middlesbrough. The latest came in April: Noah Okafor scored twice in a 2-1 win at Old Trafford, Leeds' first league win there since 1981, and Martinez was sent off for pulling the hair of Leeds forward Dominic Calvert-Lewin. United's last visit to Elland Road, a 1-1 draw in January, was Ruben Amorim's final game in charge: he was sacked the next day after appearing to criticise the club's hierarchy.

The Martinez fallout

"I expect more [investment]. 100%. I expect more from our technical director," Martinez told Amazon Prime after the defeat in Madrid, referring to Jason Wilcox. Carrick said that night he had not seen the comments and that "now is the time to be together and work through." On Thursday the Argentina defender met Wilcox, chief executive Omar Berrada and Carrick, then apologised: "The frustration of the defeat led me to express how I felt at a time and place that perhaps were not the right ones, and for that I want to apologise." He has reportedly been fined, and Sky Sports News said the club consider the matter closed.

Team news

The Evening Standard reports it is not yet clear whether Martinez will play; if he is left out, Ayden Heaven is the likeliest replacement. United's Kobbie Mainoo and Luke Shaw are doubts after missing the trip to Madrid with minor injuries, while Benjamin Sesko, Patrick Dorgu, Noussair Mazraoui, Manuel Ugarte and Tom Heaton are sidelined. Leeds are without centre-back Joe Rodon and forward Mateo Joseph, but Daniel James, who missed the Arsenal game with a back problem, could return against his former club, according to Sports Mole.
