Lazio lead Serie A alone for the first time since 2010-11, three clear of Inter

Lazio are alone at the top of Serie A for the first time since 2010-11, after coming from behind to beat Cagliari 2-1 on Sunday, a day after Inter lost the Milan derby 3-1. Coach Gennaro Gattuso's side have 28 points from ten games: nine wins, one draw and no defeat. That is three more than Inter, four more than Roma, five more than Como and seven more than Milan.

What the table says

Lazio have scored 24 goals and conceded eight, level with Como for the fewest, and have won all five away games, 14-3 on aggregate. Roma, on 24 points, have the league's best attack (28 goals) and best goal difference (+18, against Lazio's +16) after a 5-2 win at Udinese on Saturday. Inter's 25 points come with 13 goals conceded. Como, who beat Venezia 1-0 on Sunday, have won four in a row. Sky Sport Italia counted Lazio's 25 points after nine games as the club's best start in Serie A, ahead of the 22 of 2010-11 and 2017-18.

Lazio go to Napoli

Cagliari led through M'bala Nzola on 20 minutes, Lazio forward Gustav Isaksen levelled before the break and substitute striker Andrea Pinamonti headed the winner in the 83rd. Lazio's next game is at Napoli on Sunday 8 November (12:30 Italian time). Napoli are eighth on 14 points, nine behind fourth place, after losing 2-0 at Juventus with ten men on the pitch at the end; ANSA called it a crisis. Captain Mattia Zaccagni came off against Cagliari after a knock, Gattuso said.

The coach will not look at the table. "If we look at the table our heads spin, so it's better not to," he told DAZN. After the 6-2 win at Sassuolo, when Lazio had 25 points, he said they were 15 short of safety. By that count safety is 40 points, which leaves 12 to find.

The chasers' fixtures

Gazzetta dello Sport judged on 30 October that Roma's five league games before the Rome derby, from Udinese on 31 October to Bologna on 4 December, look easier on paper than Inter's five, from the Milan derby to Frosinone on 5 December. Roma host Sassuolo on Saturday 7 November, then visit Parma on 21 November, host Monza and go to Bologna on 4 December. Inter host Como at San Siro on Sunday 8 November at 18:00, then play Atalanta away, Genoa at home and Frosinone away on 5 December. Captain Lautaro Martínez, out with a thigh injury since mid-October, should be back for Inter after the international break.

After the Milan derby defeat, Inter coach Cristian Chivu said: "We have to work on our approach and on the determination we sometimes lack."

The last Lazio side to lead alone, Edy Reja's in 2010-11, was four points clear of Inter and five clear of Milan after nine games. It then lost the Rome derby 2-0 in round ten and finished fifth, according to Sky Sport Italia.
