LaLiga's Crucial Phase: Playoff Drama and Exciting Basketball Semifinals

The 2025-2026 Spanish football and basketball seasons enter critical moments with exciting playoff battles capturing fans' attention across the nation. In football, Málaga and Almería, two historic Andalusian clubs, prepare to contest the final playoff for the last promotion berth to LaLiga's top flight for the 2026-2027 season. Meanwhile, Valencia Basket and Joventut Badalona face off in the semifinals of the Liga Endesa basketball playoffs, fighting to reach the championship final.

Málaga vs Almería: The Last Ticket to LaLiga

The LaLiga Hypermotion (Second Division) final playoff features Málaga CF hosting UD Almería this Sunday, June 14, at 21:00 CET in Málaga's La Rosaleda stadium. This matchup offers a poignant narrative; Málaga, once a Champions League quarterfinalist a decade ago, has endured relegations to Segunda División and then Primera RFEF, rebuilding with a focus on youth and budget discipline. Coached by Juan Funes, Málaga boasts standout homegrown talents like David Larrubia and Joaquín Muñoz, aiming to capitalize on vibrant home support to secure an advantage ahead of the return leg on June 20 at Almería's Power Horse Stadium.

Almería, recovering from last season’s painful relegation, fields an experienced squad boasting players such as Andrés Fernández, Stefan Dzodic, and the league's top scorer Sergio Arribas with 26 goals. Almería’s objective is to come away with a solid result in La Rosaleda to approach the home fixture with a step closer to achieving promotion. The probable starting lineups indicate both sides are assembled for a keenly fought encounter.

Basketball Semifinals: Valencia Basket Seeks to Extend Edge Against Joventut

On the basketball hardwood, Valencia Basket hosts Joventut in the second game of their Liga Endesa playoff semifinal series at Roig Arena on Friday, June 12, at 20:00 CET. Valencia secured a hard-fought 118-117 overtime victory in the first leg thanks to an inspired performance from Jean Montero, who scored 27 points. The Taronges (Valencia’s moniker) have also demonstrated strong collective offensive cohesion with five players exceeding double digits in scoring.

Joventut, meanwhile, continues to display a devastating offensive arsenal highlighted by Ricky Rubio’s brilliant 22 points and 11 assists. Despite missing key player Ante Tomic, Dani Miret's side has recently achieved impressive wins at prestigious venues like Real Madrid and Baskonia, underscoring their resilience and threat level. Valencia currently benefits from home-court advantage in this best-of-five semifinal and aims to complete a 3-0 home winning streak to approach the final.

The other semifinal features Barça Basket leading La Laguna Tenerife, setting up a compelling summit clash in Liga Endesa's finale.
