Iago Aspas leads La Liga in chance creation; LaLiga steps up fight against racism and promotes inclusion
2025-10-15 · La Liga

Iago Aspas stands out as La Liga’s top attacker in chance creation since 2020, while LaLiga intensifies efforts against racist abuse following recent incidents and launches its inclusive Genuine Moeve tournament.
Iago Aspas, the iconic Celta de Vigo forward, continues to leave an indelible mark on Spain’s La Liga not only for his impressive goal-scoring record but also for his ability to create scoring opportunities for his teammates. According to the specialized website Squawka Football, since the 2020/21 season, the moañés (native of Moaña) has generated 342 goal-scoring chances in 179 matches, surpassing international stars like Vinícius Junior, Luka Modrić, and Antoine Griezmann. At 38 years old, Aspas remains an unavoidable reference in the league and could soon break the historic record for most appearances with Celta, surpassing the 533 official matches of the legendary Manolo “El Gran Capitán” (The Great Captain).
LaLiga strengthens its fight against racism
Combating hate crimes remains a top priority for LaLiga. Following several racist incidents during matches in Oviedo—including insults directed at stars like Marcus Rashford, Kylian Mbappé, and Vinícius Junior—the league body is studying legal measures. Specifically, a video showing a racist slur against Rashford during the Real Oviedo vs. Barcelona match is under review to determine whether to file a complaint with the Anti-Violence Commission or pursue criminal charges. The Oviedo club has shown "total cooperation from the outset," and the case echoes a prior incident in which a fan was arrested for racist gestures toward Vinícius and Mbappé, potentially facing up to three years in prison.
LaLiga Genuine Moeve: Football as a tool for inclusion
Alongside these efforts, LaLiga continues to champion inclusive football with the eighth season of LaLiga Genuine Moeve, a tournament for players with intellectual disabilities. Launched in 2017 with significant social impact, this year’s edition will feature 50 teams and 1,400 players, hosted across six venues: Tarragona, Cádiz, Gijón, Granada, Burgos, and Madrid. The competition embodies values of camaraderie and sportsmanship, which, according to LaLiga president Javier Tebas, help players boost their "self-esteem, confidence, and autonomy." The partnership with sponsor Moeve reinforces this message of inclusion: "The future is brighter if we all play."
In short, La Liga 2025 shines not only for its competitive excellence and elite players like Iago Aspas but also for its commitment to social responsibility—evident in its anti-racism campaigns and decisive push for inclusion within Spanish football.
