The 34-year-old right-back, a six-time Champions League winner, joins José Bordalás's side as a free agent and will wear the number 14.
Getafe have signed Dani Carvajal as a free agent, the club announced on Tuesday. The 34-year-old right-back, without a club since leaving Real Madrid at the end of last season, has a contract until 30 June 2027 and will wear the number 14, according to COPE.
It is a rare coup for José Bordalás's side, 14th in La Liga with 8 points and only 4 goals scored in 8 matches. Carvajal, whose last game for Real Madrid was on 23 May, won 27 titles at the club, including six Champions Leagues. El Mundo puts his salary below one million euros and notes that he has not recovered his best level since tearing a cruciate ligament in October 2024. He trained with his new team-mates on Tuesday morning.
The move depended on LaLiga's financial control approving his registration, and Getafe president Ángel Torres had to guarantee it with his own assets, COPE reports. A week earlier, Torres had told DAZN: "We're working on it. The coach was asking me for a winger, we couldn't find one. Let's see if a wing-back will do." According to COPE, Getafe striker Borja Mayoral was decisive in convincing Carvajal, and the club are now in talks with another free agent, midfielder Dani Parejo.
