Monaco's draw with Toulouse leaves them one point clear of Lille and Rennes, while PSG climb to 11 points and Angers crash 5-1 at Brest.
Marseille finally won, Rennes climbed onto the podium and Monaco's lead at the top of Ligue 1 shrank to a single point. After a 2-2 draw with Toulouse, Monaco have 14 points from six matches, one ahead of Lille and Rennes on 13, with Lyon, Paris FC and PSG on 11.
1. Marseille stop the rot at Troyes
Bruno Genesio's Marseille won 2-0 at Troyes on Sunday night after four straight league defeats, five in all competitions. It was not pretty: Marseille had 67% of the ball but only five shots, the first in the 37th minute, against 15 for Troyes. Amine Harit finished Emerson Palmieri's cross on 50 minutes and Himad Abdelli converted a penalty won by Faris Moumbagna in the eighth minute of stoppage time. Troyes hit the bar through Adrien Monfray and the post through Renaud Ripart, and have now failed to score in three matches. Marseille move out of the relegation zone to 13th; Troyes drop to 17th. Marseille face Olympiakos in the Europa League on Thursday.
2. Rennes recover from the Lyon defeat
Beaten 4-0 in Lyon before the international break, Rennes beat Auxerre 4-1 to go third. Estéban Lepaul, without a goal in seven matches across all competitions, opened the scoring on 15 minutes with an outside-of-the-foot volley from Charlie Cresswell's long ball. Cameron Archer, on loan from Southampton, equalised for Auxerre, and Adrien Thomasson's header from a Bryan Reynolds pass restored the lead after the break. Boulaye Dia then scored twice in stoppage time, his first Ligue 1 goals since 2021, when he played for Reims.
3. PSG's bench decides against Le Mans
With Ousmane Dembélé and Nuno Mendes rested ahead of Wednesday's Champions League trip to Manchester City, PSG were held 1-1 by promoted Le Mans until coach Luis Enrique sent on Warren Zaïre-Emery, Fabián Ruiz, Vitinha and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia. Lucas Beraldo's penalty had been cancelled out by Louis Mafouta; Kvaratskhelia then followed up a Ruiz shot on 61 minutes and Maghnes Akliouche scored his first goal for the club seven minutes later. Luis Enrique called Akliouche the "best player of the match". Le Mans goalkeeper Nicolas Kocik also saved a stoppage-time penalty from Désiré Doué. A third straight league win leaves PSG three points behind Monaco.
4. Angers fall apart in Brest
Angers were 4-0 down at half-time in Brest and lost 5-1, with five different Brest players scoring: Ludovic Ajorque, Lucien Tousart, Kenny Lala, Mama Baldé and Pathé Mboup. "Before talking about tactics or technique, I think we fell short in intensity and on second balls," Angers coach Stéphane Gilli said. Brest move up to seventh on eight points; Angers are 12th.
5. Lille win, but fear for Tiago Santos
Daouda Bakwa's fifth-minute goal gave Lille a 1-0 win over Le Havre, who stay bottom with two points and no win in six matches. The cost may be high: Lille full-back Tiago Santos was hurt in the knee by a tackle from Le Havre's Amir Richardson and left on a stretcher, two years after a cruciate ligament rupture. In Friday's opener, Lens beat Lyon 2-1 in new coach Yannick Cahuzac's first match at Bollaert, Florian Sotoca scoring on his first start of the season.
