Fellhauer scores fastest Bundesliga goal as Augsburg hold Bayern 2-2

2026-10-11 · Bundesliga

Robin Fellhauer punished a Manuel Neuer error after 8.4 seconds. Bayern twice came from behind but stay two points behind leaders Dortmund.

Robin Fellhauer scored the fastest goal in Bundesliga history after 8.4 seconds as Augsburg held Bayern Munich 2-2 on Saturday, leaving Vincent Kompany's side two points behind leaders Borussia Dortmund.

Bayern twice came from behind, through Ismael Saibari in the 55th minute and substitute Nathaniel Brown in the 80th, with Harry Kane setting up both goals. With Dortmund held 2-2 by Werder Bremen on Friday, a win in Augsburg would have taken Bayern top. Saibari started in place of Jamal Musiala, who was injured on international duty with Germany.

Eight seconds

Bayern kicked off and Kane played the ball straight back to Manuel Neuer. The 40-year-old took a heavy touch, tried to chip the ball over the onrushing Fellhauer and hit him in the back. The 28-year-old midfielder ran on and scored into the empty net. The Bundesliga and data provider Opta both recorded the goal at 8.4 seconds, beating the nine seconds shared by Kevin Volland, for Hoffenheim against Bayern in 2015, and Karim Bellarabi, for Leverkusen against Dortmund in 2014.

"I didn't even realise it until the first injury break when Gregor came over to me and said, 'Congratulations, you're buying the drinks now' that I knew something had happened," Fellhauer told the Bundesliga after the match, adding: "I don't think anyone will break it any time soon." To Sky, he joked: "Karim and Kevin were very slow."

Augsburg have become an awkward opponent for Bayern. Their only league defeat in their past 48 matches came against Augsburg in January, according to the Guardian, and the Augsburger Allgemeine notes that the last three first-minute goals Bayern have conceded were all scored in Augsburg: a Leon Goretzka own goal after 13 seconds in February 2019, Marco Richter after 27 seconds in October 2019, and now Fellhauer.

Neuer at fault again

Bayern dominated after the break. Luis Díaz had a goal ruled out for offside moments before Kane laid on Saibari's equaliser. Augsburg hit straight back: Neuer parried Calvin Brackelmann's low shot into the path of Rodrigo Ribeiro, who tapped in for 2-1 in the 64th minute. Bayern had two more goals disallowed for offside before Brown, a 68th-minute substitute, finished from close range. Serge Gnabry then hit the post and Augsburg goalkeeper Finn Dahmen made further saves. Kane, who had hit the crossbar in the last action of the first half, was voted man of the match. The league's expected-goals figures read 2.85 for Augsburg and 4.19 for Bayern.

"It was a stupid mistake on my part," Neuer said. "I had to move the ball onto my left because two players were closing me down from the right. Then I tried to find a solution. But I simply should have made a different decision." Sporting director Max Eberl said: "He made a mistake, controlled the ball badly, then he wanted to sort it out and did it too riskily." He added: "We made life hard for ourselves with a series of mistakes. Manu is part of that, but others too." Kompany pointed to Bayern's chances, telling DAZN: "But we also had chances at the other end to decide the game. We must not forget that."

What it changes

Bayern remain unbeaten after five matches, with three wins and two draws, and are second on 11 points, two behind Dortmund. Freiburg, third on 10 points after four games, host Schalke on Sunday and would go top with a win. Augsburg are sixth on eight points.
