Barcelona Regains La Liga Lead with Convincing 3-0 Victory Over Levante

In a pivotal La Liga clash at the Spotify Camp Nou, FC Barcelona reasserted their dominance by defeating Levante 3-0 on Sunday, February 22, 2026. The victory saw the Blaugrana reclaim the top spot in the league standings after Real Madrid's surprising setback the previous day.

The match sprang to life early as Marc Bernal opened the scoring just three minutes in with a precise finish following an assist from Eric García, setting the tone for a highly controlled display from Barcelona. Levante, despite an early chance in the opening seconds, struggled to contain the home side's attacking prowess and tactical superiority.

Frenkie de Jong doubled Barcelona's lead in the 31st minute, capitalizing on a dangerous cross by João Cancelo, who was arguably Barcelona's MVP. His offensive runs from the left flank continually destabilized Levante's backline throughout the game.

Levante's coach Luis Castro lamented defensive lapses, especially from set-pieces, stating, "Empiezas el partido con una ocasión de uno contra el portero... Hay que estar más concentrados. Ellos casi siempre sacan en corto y lo sabíamos."

Barcelona's control extended into the second half as Hansi Flick made tactical substitutions that maintained the team's tempo. The match was effectively sealed with a stunning long-range strike from Fermín López in the 80th minute–a reflection of his dedication to refining his shooting techniques as he explained, "En la jugada del gol he visto el hueco, he probado y me ha salido un buen gol... Antes me precipitaba un poco en el disparo. Ahora lo voy entrenando y creo que puedo ayudar al equipo con esa faceta."

João Cancelo, who picked up the Man of the Match honors, praised his own performances with humility: "Ha sido mi mejor partido desde el regreso. Aprovechar la oportunidad cuando el míster me pone. Sentía que estaba entrenando muy bien. Luego sale todo en el partido. Soy un lateral ofensivo como ya saben."

Levante had moments where they pressed forward, but Barcelona's defensive organization and goalkeeper Joan García prevented any serious threat. The match saw multiple corners and quick transitions, all controlled masterfully by the home team, underscoring their intent to build momentum for the season's latter stages.

With this vital win, Barcelona leapfrogs Real Madrid back atop La Liga, reinforcing their credentials as title favorites. Hansi Flick reflected after the match: "Es muy importante marcar rápido y la confianza que hemos tenido desde el principio... Es importante volver a ser líderes. Es muy positivo."

Overall, the match demonstrated Barcelona's blend of youth and experience, with players like Fermín López making decisive contributions, while seasoned campaigners controlled the game's rhythm. The Camp Nou faithful will be hopeful that this performance signals a sustained push for the title.
