PSG's four goals in 17 minutes, United's 2-0 comeback: five things from Tuesday

PSG won 6-0 at Villarreal after four goals in 17 minutes, a Champions League record, and Manchester United beat Roma 3-2 from two goals down. Barcelona ended Aston Villa's perfect start and Bayern moved into the top eight.

Paris Saint-Germain scored four goals in 17 minutes at Villarreal, a Champions League record, and won 6-0 on Tuesday. Manchester United came from 2-0 down to beat Roma 3-2, Bayern Munich won at Atlético Madrid and Barcelona ended Aston Villa's perfect start. Here are five things from the night, and what they do to the table.

PSG's fast start breaks a record

PSG's João Neves, Désiré Doué, Senny Mayulu and Fabián Ruiz scored inside 17 minutes, a faster four than any team has managed in a Champions League match; the previous record was Real Madrid's 20 minutes against Dinamo Zagreb in 2011, ESPN said. BBC Sport said Villarreal errors at the back led to all four. Ruiz added a second in the 50th minute and 17-year-old defender David Boly scored on his Champions League debut in the 78th.

PSG were without Ousmane Dembélé, Marquinhos and Nuno Mendes, all with thigh injuries. The holders have 12 points and 20 goals from four games and are the only side to have won all four. Liverpool, Real Madrid and Betis, perfect after three, can match that with a win on Wednesday. Coach Luis Enrique looked ahead: "the real competition starts in February or March."

United recover from 2-0 down to beat Roma

Roma led 2-0 after 17 minutes at Old Trafford: Roma's Matías Soulé scored in the 11th and Donyell Malen converted a penalty after United defender Ayden Heaven blocked a shot with his arm. After the break, United captain Bruno Fernandes had a penalty saved by Roma goalkeeper Devis Vásquez, but it was retaken because Roma players had entered the area, and he scored in the 58th minute. United forward Matheus Cunha equalised in the 83rd and scored the winner three minutes later from a pass by substitute Shea Lacey, then was sent off in stoppage time for a second yellow card.

The win ended nine games without a victory and was United's first in any competition in 54 days, NBC Sports said. Manager Michael Carrick was cautious: "I didn't feel relief. I was genuinely pleased for the players." United have six points from four games, level with seven other clubs before Wednesday's matches, and host Aston Villa on Sunday 8 November.

Barcelona end Villa's perfect start

Barcelona forward Lamine Yamal scored in the seventh minute, his 13th goal of the season, after Aston Villa midfielder João Gomes played a loose pass across his own penalty area. Captain Raphinha added two second-half goals, and Barcelona's 3-0 win at the Camp Nou took them second, level with Villa on nine points but ahead on goal difference. BBC Sport said it was Barcelona's first Champions League clean sheet in 18 games. Villa manager Unai Emery summed it up: "Good experience, bad result."

Bayern win at Atlético and reach the top eight

Bayern's Lennart Karl, 18, scored in the 54th minute, his fifth Champions League goal, and Konrad Laimer added a second in the 74th from a pass by forward Harry Kane. Bayern won 2-0 with assistant coach Aaron Danks again in charge, as head coach Vincent Kompany remains absent on medical grounds, ESPN reported. Karl is the fourth player to reach five goals in the competition before turning 19. Kane did not score, ending a run of 10 straight Champions League appearances with a goal, BBC Sport said. Bayern are unbeaten after four games, and their eight points put them eighth before Wednesday's games, the last place that goes straight to the round of 16.

Sporting win under an interim coach

Sporting won 1-0 at Shakhtar Donetsk, who play their home games in the competition at Stamford Bridge, after dismissing head coach Rui Borges. Interim coach Tiago Fernandes had one training session before the game, and Sporting's Issa Doumbia scored in the 59th minute after a Shakhtar error. It was Sporting's third win in four games, and with nine points they are sixth for now. They face Manchester United on 25 November.
