All eight unbeaten Champions League sides play away on matchday 4

PSG, Aston Villa, Liverpool, Real Madrid and Real Betis lead the league phase on nine points. Liverpool's trip is to Fenerbahçe, now under interim coach Dirk Kuyt, a former Liverpool forward.

The Champions League has no matches this weekend, and when it returns on Tuesday 3 November, all eight sides still unbeaten after three games will be on the road. PSG, Aston Villa, Liverpool, Real Madrid and Real Betis lead the 36-team table on nine points each, Stuttgart and Arsenal have seven, and Bayern Munich, 14th on five, have not lost either. Six of the eight hosts sit 16th or lower, among them Fenerbahçe in 31st and Slavia Prague in 32nd.

What to follow before then

Fenerbahçe host Göztepe on Saturday in the first match for interim coach Dirk Kuyt, the former Liverpool forward who took over after head coach Ismail Kartal resigned following a 2-1 derby defeat by Galatasaray. The Turkish daily Posta quotes Kuyt, translated from Turkish, as saying: "We are going through difficult times. I want all of you to fight and give the fans a win." On Sunday, Liverpool host Arsenal in the Premier League, the only league meeting this weekend between two of the unbeaten eight, and Real Madrid start a run of three away games in six days at Racing Santander in LaLiga, with AEK Athens and Valencia to follow, the Spanish daily Mundo Deportivo notes. Bayern host Dortmund on Saturday before their trip to Atlético Madrid.

Eight trips

On Tuesday, PSG visit Villarreal on a 13-match unbeaten run in the Champions League that equals their club record, UEFA says. Aston Villa go to Barcelona, who have not lost any of their last 15 UEFA home matches against English clubs, and Stuttgart travel to Galatasaray, whose last home win over a German club in UEFA competition came in 1992/93. Bayern are at Atlético Madrid, unbeaten in their last 16 UEFA home games against German opposition.

On Wednesday, Real Madrid go to AEK Athens having won just one of eight previous UEFA away games against Greek clubs, Betis visit Dortmund, who have won their last four UEFA matches against Spanish sides, all at home, and Arsenal travel to Slavia Prague on an 18-match unbeaten run in the competition, a club record. Liverpool's trip has a twist. Fenerbahçe, 31st with two points and winless in their last ten Champions League matches proper, their longest such run, are led for now by Kuyt, in charge until a new head coach is appointed; if he is still in the job on 4 November, he will face the club where he scored 71 goals in 285 appearances over six years. Liverpool's UEFA away record against Turkish clubs reads one win in eight, with 1-0 defeats in each of the last three.

The top-eight line

Barcelona, who host Villa, are eighth on six points, level with Como, Manchester City, Club Brugge, Sporting CP and Dortmund. Goal difference runs from +5 down to +1 across the six, and Bayern are a point behind. In the table, places one to eight go straight to the last 16 and nine to 24 into the play-offs. Of the six on six points, only Barcelona and Dortmund play at home: Como visit Lens, City go to RB Leipzig, Brugge are at PSV Eindhoven and Sporting at Shakhtar Donetsk.
