But having passed up a number of big chances to open the scoring earlier, they finally made one count at the death as Jimenez turned home at the back post to earn a big victory on the road.

While the first team were facing West Ham at London Stadium, business was being finalised at Compton Park. The departure of Hee Chan Hwang was confirmed, while Cesar Peixoto added Sean Neave to his side. The young Newcastle striker joined Raul Jimenez, Kieran Trippier, Jordan James, Rafiki Said, John Ruddy and Joao Virginia as the new additions for 2026/27. On deadline day, work was also ongoing for the arrival of Ghislain Konan, who joined the following day. Bertrand Traore signed the following week on a free transfer to conclude our summer business.
